About Me

My name is Dr Megan Reay. I am a fully qualified Clinical Psychologist who is registered with the Health Care and Professionals Council (HCPC). I founded Heads in Herts after working in the NHS for 5 years, specialising in child and adolescent mental health.

My Background

I trained as a Clinical Psychologist as I am passionate about supporting children, adolescents, and young adults to overcome their mental health difficulties, to enable them to reach their full potential. After completing my undergraduate and master’s degrees in Clinical Applications of Psychology at the University of Warwick, I went on to complete my doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Oxford.

I have worked in a range of settings within the NHS including general child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS), paediatrics, specialist CAMHS eating disorder services, and a CAMHS outreach service. I continue to work in a CAMHS team alongside my private practice where I support young people with their mental health and complete Autism diagnostic assessments.

My work is predominantly formulation-led which means I create an individualised therapy plan based on each person’s specific difficulties, as opposed to focusing on diagnostic labels or protocols. The main therapeutic modalities which I draw upon are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, and Systemic Family Therapy.

I access regular clinical supervision and training to continue to develop my skills and experience. I have completed my Intermediate qualification in systemic family therapy through the Association of Family Therapy and Systemic Practice (AFT). I have also completed additional training in CBT through the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP) and am now a BABCP registered practitioner. This means I am able to offer BABCP accredited supervision to CBT therapists, find out more here. I am also trained to complete standardised Autism diagnostic assessments (ADOS and ADI-R).

We know that building a trusting, supportive therapeutic relationship is one of the best predictors of success in any therapy. If you would like to arrange a free initial consultation to consider if I would be a good fit, please do get in contact here.
